This book had the potential to be a great story. Potential is all though. There were so many inaccuracies in the story that it was unbelievable and ridiculous. Sure, the author did a good job at representing Clayton, GA, but it is clear he did not research blindness or how transplant procedures work. I can say this because I am blind, and I have had an organ transplant.First of all, what blind people use is not a "walking stick." It is a cane. Not all use guide wires either, especially at their houses. Furthermore, at one point it seemed like Georgia may have been some kind of self-trained guide dog when she went into the restaurant, but at another it seemed more like she was a pet. Blind people do not all have acute hearing. It is not true that when one sense is lost, another develops better. Sure, compensation is made, but not to that degree. We just have to use other senses to focus more. It is a developed skill. At one point, the author mentioned Charlie went to a school for blind adults with TBI's. Again, not true. There is no such thing. Yes, there are schools for the blind, but TBI's are not the main reason they go to the school. Sure, some have been in accidents. Some lost their site due to illness. Some were born blind and were sheltered growing up, so they need to go to those schools to gain independence.Now for the transplant problems. I yelled at the book a few times reading about the transplant procedure. Someone does not just go on the list when they feel like it. The doctors make that decision based on organ function. Noone waits for a doctor to perform a specific surgery either. They can't just say no and send a kid or adult on their way. Referrals and recommendations must be made if something is too complex. When people needing heart transplants are as bad off as Annie and Emma, they don't stay at home. They are hospitalized for safety reasons.Also, immunosuppressants are not given in shot form daily, nor are they prior to the transplant.And, the blood! What the heck? Really! What in the world was the author thinking? Oh, let's just give the kid some blood from two people because she'll bleed out on the way to the hospital. No! This cannot happen! Even if all three of them had the same blood type or the universal donor type, cross-matching still has to be done. In a transplant patient, blood transfusions make it more difficult to find an organ that will work well, yet Annie just went into surgery without further testing to make sure their blood didn't screw up her antibodies, thus making the heart unusable.I realize this was a fictional story, but when books are based on real-life situations, authors need to research the things about which they are writing. Otherwise, it is just an unbelievable, flawed piece of work. I am sad that I paid so much for the Kindle and audio companion. The description was vague at best and did not even let onto the book was about transplants. Had it given more detail, I probably would have run far away.
