It's not that I don't like Sloane Kennedy's style - I've read almost all of her books - it's just that this one is ulitimately not very enjoyable. There is always a Really Bad Thing that happens, usually pretty implausible, but edge-of-your-seat suspenseful, and both plot- and character-driven. This one? Not so much. (No Spoilers) At about 80% in a fine menage story, The Bad Thing just popped up - no foreshadowing to speak of, no motivation consistent with either the MC's or the villain's previous behavior, and a tissue-thin, incoherent backstory. Obviously, complaining about lack of veritas in a SK story is like whining about too much magic in Harry Potter, or characters dying in Game of Thrones - if you don't like it, go to a different universe. But this story is just so poorly plotted, one is pulled right out of the story, and left feeling totally ripped off by what seems, because of the lazy plotting, like completely pointless violence and suffering inflicted on characters in whom one has become invested. Which is a shame, because the characters are truly likeable, the sex is unusually good, and the cameos of characters from previous books are well-done. I wouldn't necessarily recommend skipping this one; just be aware that you probably will roll your eyes hard enough to hurt.
